Awards Show Glamour by Claire

Bring some glamour to your make-up look

At this time year, there is an abundance of glamour and glitz with many awards ceremonies. With the Oscars on Sunday night, I've looked back at the red carpet beauty looks so far and one of my favourites this year was January Jones at the Golden Globes.

With such a show stopping bright red Versace dress, January Jones went for an old school glamour combo of red pout, strong brows and rolling wave. Nothing spells old school glamour more than a classic red lip and Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Excess or classic Revlon Fire and Ice are perfect for re-creating the look.

Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Excess - £23.00 - available from Selfridges

Revlon Fire and Ice - £7.29 - available from Boots

“Who be this dapper gent and spruced up maid?” I hear you ask.

Well the truth of the matter is, I don’t know. Neither does Supermarket Sarah, the merchant responsible for selling this happy couple. All we know is that they form a remarkable pair of Finnish tapestries, cross stitched and framed, and an inspired choice of wedding gift.

Glug Glug Jug by Annabelle

It could have easily slipped under your radar, but for all intents and purposes the ‘Gluggle’ is a bit of a British institution.

The Gluggle jug is a tradtional water pitcher first made in England from the 1870s. They experienced a huge surge in popularity after a special pair of jugs were commissioned to give to the Queen and Prince Philip on their visit to Britannia Naval College in 1958 and have henceforth enjoyed collector item status. The odd nameof the jug comes from the ‘glug glug’ sound made by water trapped in the fish’s tail when you pour!

The Gluggle is a highly versatile jug, made from durable stoneware it can be used as a water jug, vase or utensil jar and makes an ideal gift (well if it’s good enough for Lizzie…)

Thoroughly Grounded by Alexandra

You probably wouldn’t eat your supper off the floor, but would you rest your china on this former factory floor?

Think of it as ‘upcycling extreme’; a coffee table crafted from a trolley cart and an old Victorian factory floor. This has just got to be about the edgiest coffee table on the market. Granted, It’s not for everyone (imagine wheeling this beauty out for tea with the vicar), but for those whose indoor space allows for this kind of artistic deviation it is a piece to be marveled.

Designer Storage by Alexandra

When you’re kitted up to the eyeballs in Gucci and Prada why ever would you want a bog-standard sideboard?

Heals, having caught on to the market for designer furniture with their Orla Kiely furniture collaborations, have just released this Rowan Sideboard in the ultimate 70’s throwback colour palate of Autumn Winter 2010!

The Rowan Sideboard White & Orange, part of the Rowan collection takes its inspiration from the mid 20th Century furniture design. Practical and beautiful, the Rowan Sideboard has been enhanced by Kiely's signature Stem design perforated onto one of the four sliding doors, painted white, against a contrasting bold orange door. It is crafted from walnut solids and veneers and finished with a durable clear matt lacquer.
