Pomegranate Power from Organic Village by Helen

A fruit explosion

I have long been a fan of the pomegranate. For many years now, on home visits, me and my mother sit down together to messily scoop out the jewel coloured fruit and laugh at each others stained faces. But it is a fruit that I have thought for some time had fewer health benefits than it's friends broccoli and asparagus say, but how wrong I was, this sweet fruit has been so modest.

The French for pomegranate is 'pomme-grenade' and when you see how much power is packed into this little lustrous fruit it's obvious that the missile is certainly aptly named. The 100% fruit juice in Organic Village's Pomegranate Juice has a real intensity of flavour and is bursting with goodness.

Certified-organic by the Soil Association, this juice is not made from concentrate, contains no added water, no added sugar or artificial sweeteners. In fact nothing added or taken away. Just 100% pure fruit juice, as nature intended.

For the health conscious, this beautiful clear garnet-coloured liquid is a source of powerful antioxidants with vitamins C and E. It has about three times more antioxidants, glass for glass, than red wine or green tea. Pomegranates are also a source of folic acid (needed to produce red blood cells), potassium, iron, calcium, vitamin K - the list reads like a veritable spaghetti-alphabet of nutrients!

Right now, it's also popular with sports enthusiasts. A recent study found that those who drank pomegranate juice experienced less soreness and recovered faster after strenuous workouts - drinking it regularly may help to reduce muscle soreness and prevent a decline in strength after exercise. Several other studies indicate that pomegranate juice may additionally prevent cartilage deterioration.

Is there anything this juice can't do?

RRP £1.39 200ml or £3.99 1litre

Protect your skin with an SPF by Claire

Choose Oy! Face the Sun SPF 15...

Whether I’m going on holiday or just enjoying the British summer, I always make sure that my face is well protected with a SPF and the easiest way to do this is with a moisturiser that has an SPF already.

However the last thing I want is my skin breaking out or reacting badly, so that’s why I’m loving Oy! Face the Sun SPF15 from Green People. This clever 3-in-1 face moisturiser nourishes skin with essential Omega-3 & 6, protects with broad spectrum UVA/UVB from pure mineral sun filters, and has a natural tan accelerator from the carob tree to speed up the tanning process by 25%.

Organic Young (Oy!) by organic skin care experts, Green People, are 100% natural products that use a clever blend of certified organic and fairly traded ingredients with no gunk, junk or artificial nasties and instead use prebiotics, willow bark, teatree, rosehip and omega oils to protect, heal and care for your skin.

£11.25 for 150ml

Organic Babies by Nicola

Organic Babies – Organic, Natural and Fairtrade from Green People

Organic Babies from Green People is a dedicated range of eight pure and gentle organic products formulated especially for baby's sensitive skin.

Did you know that many mainstream cosmetic brands contain a large proportion of non-active ingredients in the form of water (often 70% or more) and synthetic ingredients? They are used to create improved textures, skin feel, fragrance and preservation as cheaply as possible.

Today eczema and allergies amongst children are on the rise, and the early introduction of toxic toiletries onto delicate skin may be a contributing factor.

Consumers are becoming more aware that many products claim to be natural and organic but in many instances this is not true. There may be less than 1% natural or organic ingredients in the product, therefore misleading the consumer. Always read the full ingredients list which should highlight the organic ingredients!

Certified organic and fairtrade, this range provides the purest, natural products that mums trust! Most contain over 90% active organic ingredients, making them highly effective, very concentrated and excellent value for money.

Green People advise mothers to avoid any products containing: SLS, SLES, Parabens, Lanolin, Propylene Glycol, Phthalates, harsh preservatives and synthetic fragrances which can be listed as “Perfum” to protect their baby's skin health.

Top Sellers include:

Organic Baby Salve: For dry/irritated skin. Suitable for babies who may be prone to eczema, dry skin and cradle cap. Can also be used as a nipple cream.

Organic Baby Wash & Shampoo: Gentle foaming and non-irritating. Use as a soap, bubble bath and shampoo.

Organic Nappy Cream Baby Balm: Soothes sore bottoms for babies with nappy rash. Locks out water acting both as a moisturiser and a moisture barrier.

Organic Children Sun Lotion: Gentle on sensitive skin and protects babies & children against harmful UVA & UVB rays. Rich in antioxidants to protect against cell damage.

Visit www.organicbabies.com to see the full range of certified organic baby and children products. RSP’s from £3.50 – £9.45. Also available from Waitrose and John Lewis
