Midsummer Night's Dream by Claire

Plaits are big news for Summer

I’m attending a friend’s wedding in a few months’ time and am looking for some inspiration for my hair. But I think I’ve just found it after looking at the models from the Erdem SS catwalks with thick plaits of hair in halos reminiscent of Michelle Pfeiffer in Midsummer Night’s Dream.

While a bit tricky to do, the overall effect is a soft, whimsical yet modern updo that is perfect for a spring wedding. It requires lots of bobby pins to secure the plaits and to give it extra hold liberally spray with Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray before plaiting and when finished give a generous misting of Bumble and Bumble Holding hairspray.

Hair Trends from New York Fashion Week by Claire

The Simple Ponytail

While we’re struggling to imagine how it will ever be warm enough to don our strappy sandals and summer shorts, the designers are already unveiling Autumn/Winter 20011-2012 in New York.

And as it turns out one of the biggest hair trends to emerge on the catwalk was the simple ponytail. Hair stylists showed the versatility with high and tight, relaxed or dishevelled ponytails.

Finally a hairstyle that us mere mortals can achieve! To create the look, ponytails will hold far better on day-old hair, but for the same effect use dry shampoo like Batiste Dry Shampoo or a texturising spray like L’oreal Texture Tonic to help bond the strands together and prevent slipping. Then simply choose your style and secure with a hair elastic.

Techni Art Play Ball Texture Tonic Texture Spray - £11.75

Batiste Dry Shampoo - £2.35

Let's go to the Ballet by Claire

Be inspired by Oscar-nominated ballet film, Black Swan...

Take inspiration from  the film of the moment, Black Swan, and create an elegant look with the ballet bun.

The ballet bun is a timeless hairstyle that is relatively easy to achieve. For an elegant look, work a soft groomed bun at the nape of your neck, or for a more modern look try placing it high on head like a top knot.

Fix with lots of kirby grips and mist with lots of hairspray, like L’oreal Elnett Satin.

Trevor Sorbie Hair Pins - £2.81

L'oreal Elnett hairspray - £5.69
