Maternity Spa Treatment Review: Cupcake Putney, London by Nicola

A maternity back massage... whilst lying on your back

I arrived at Cupcake in Putney and it was already bustling with mummies and babies catching up, grabbing a coffee or waiting for a range of activities on offer.

I was soon met by my lovely therapist, Jennifer, who filled me in on the Cupcake concept. More than just a spa, Cupcake is a hybrid of member's club, gym, spa and creche - dedicated to providing ante-natal and post-natal wellbeing.  It offers over 45 different classes for all of the family, including fitness, birth-preparation seminars and 'Mumpreneur' networking. For babies and toddlers you can find singing, crafts and signing workshops and there are also gym classes for Dads, as well as regular socials such as the popular wine-tasting evenings.

I was shown upstairs to the Orientally-decorated and softly-lit treatment room where I spied a very interesting bed... on the traditional massage table was a heated, water-filled mattress with a raised rest for the knees.  I wasn't sure entirely what to expect but settled myself down, popped my eye mask on and then she began.

Starting at my feet, nothing unusual so far, but as she worked her way up my legs, due to the plastic cover on the mattress and the oil on her hands, it meant she could easily massage under the backs of my legs.  Then she moved up to my back, where it was a revelation, I was having a proper back massage whilst lying on my back! After trying a few other mum-to-be massages where I have lain on my side or leant on a chair whilst leaning my head on the bed, it was a real treat to experience the 'real deal', undoing all of those knots caused by carrying a great big bump for eight months!

And so it continued for a blissful hour and I can happily say I haven't enjoyed such an effective massage since becoming pregnant!

So I give this a superb 9/10 - Total maternity=focused massage without any compromise.

Cupcake in the Oven 60 minute Full Body Massage £70 http://www.cupcakemum.com/

My First Years personalised baby booties by Nicola

Personalised Shearling and High Top booties make a perfect and super-stylish gift

We fell in love with these little shearling booties when they hit our desk this week... and cooed even more when we saw the high-top trainers!  They make an ideal gift for a new baby and stand in a league of their own when pitted against traditional baby gifts.

My 1st Years use the latest embroidery technology to print personal messages on the smallest of items for newborn babies. They are loved by celebrity mums Dannii Minogue and Denise Van Outen, who have both tweeted about them. Dannii’s son Ethan has been photographed wearing his specially-designed high=top trainers!

You can chose from various products, colours and styles, so whether it’s the perfect newborn blanket you are searching for, or your babies first pair of sheepskin booties or high top trainers, My 1st Years has it all.

They can be purchased and designed online via the website.

Kurtis Funky Pram Curtains by Nicola

Kurtis at The Baby Show

I came across the lovely Kurtis at The Baby Show last week.  A range of 'curtains' that fit over the buggy to help your baby sleep, without having to use draped blankets, which can get pulled down by little hands.

What made them stand out over other baby covers, were the funky colours and patterns in bright pinks, oranges and turquoise with 'urban' prints.

Another benefit is that we have a black buggy for our little girl (due in December), making sure it is unisex for when we have baby number two.  These curtains can also help make your pram a bit more 'girly'.

Next Maternity Styling at The Baby Show by Nicola

Gorgeous and affordable maternity clothes

At the fantastic Baby Show at Earl's Court on Saturday, I was lucky to have the opportunity to be styled by Prima Baby's Deputy Editor, the very lovely Claire Lavelle.  I was looking for a work outfit for a big 'media' meeting I have coming up where my faithful Mama's and Papa's jeggings just won't cut it... so I booked myself in for a styling session and Claire worked her magic and picked out a delectable selection from the Next Maternity range

I tried on a huge range of clothes, from the lovely Ditsy Print Maternity Dress and the Bat Wing Stripey Maternity Tunic.  But I went for the Black Maternity Tunic £25 with Jeggings - £9 and will team with my 'killer heels' ... if I'm feeling brave... or the flats, if my feet are their normal swollen size!  And the tip here is to 'accessorise, accessorise, accessorise!'
